Coimbatore to Ooty

1. Straight(2.1 km) on Avanashi Rd going toward Nethaji Rd
   
2. Straight (Keep Right) on Mills Rd(NH47 Hwy) flyover, go 0.4 km
   
3. At Uppilipalayam Flyover, take 2nd exit onto Uppilipalayam Flyover(NH47 Hwy), go <100m overall
   
4. 1st Left on Mills Rd(NH67 Hwy) flyover, go 0.6 km
   
5. 5th Right (past Indian Bank on the left) onto Tv Swamy Rd(NH67 Hwy), go 1.2 km
   
6. Continue down NH67 Hwy: 2 km (Past Oasis Enterprises on the left)
   
7. Continue down NH67 Hwy: 4.7 km
   
8. Continue down SH8 Hwy: 52 km.
   Enter Coimbatore District.
   Leave Thudiyalur.
   Via Ashokapuram, Narasimhanaicken-Palayam, Gudalur, Periyanaicken-Palayam, Veerapandi, Karamadai, Mettupalayam at 12 km.
   Via The Nilgiris District at 42 km.
   Enter Coonoor at 42 km.
   
9. Slight Right (past Kattaji Road Railway Station on the left) onto SH8 Hwy, go 10 km.
   Enter The Nilgiris District at 9.2 km.
   
10. Slight Right onto SH8 Hwy, go 4.1 km.
    Via Kethi.
    Enter Udhagamandalam at 1.5 km.
    
11. Slight Right onto SH8 Hwy, go 1.4 km
    
12. Continue down : 1 km (Past Hotel Lake View on the right)
    
13. Take Slight 2nd Right, go 0.2 km
    
14. Take Slight 2nd Left, go 0.5 km
    
15. Take Slight 1st Right, go 0.8 km
    
16. Take 1st Right (past Fortune Hotel Sullivan Court on the left), go <10m
    
17. Arrive at destination
    

Ooty Travel Notes

Note 1:
Climbing Routes: Ooty can be climbed by road from either Mettupalayam direction or from Mysore/Gudalur direction. Mysore route forks out at Mudmalai and merges back at Gudalur, either route will be scenic.

Note 2:
Train Route: The supposedly world famous Mettupalayam to Ooty Nilgiris Mountain Railway is another option to climb up. It can be booked separately or along with your journey from Chennai or any other station to Coimbatore.

Note 3:
Driving Down by road: Ooty Ghat roads are quite slippery during rains, so novice drivers need to take extra care while driving down. Its better to check your brakes, tires before starting the journey, and give ample breaks for your engine, break-chords to cool down. Even if it is not required, it is always better to drive down in lower gears which give you better grip on the road, and always remember to leave way for vehicles climbing up.
